Secunda flying squad arrests motorist on N17 for unlicensed gun and ammo

The motorist failed to produce a license, and the gun's serial number was scratched off. 

Members of the Secunda Police’s flying squad arrested a 30-year-old man in Trichardt for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday, March 7.  

According to Sgt Valencia Koma, spokesperson for Trichardt Police, the members were on patrol and conducted stop and searches on the N17 highway near the Trichardt tallgate, when they stopped a vehicle traveling to Johannesburg.  

The police searched the driver and found a pistol and ammunition in his possession.  

The motorist failed to produce a license, and the gun’s serial number was scratched off.  

The suspect was arrested and charged as per case number 12/03/2022 for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.   

He appeared in the Secunda Magistrate Court today, March 9, was remanded in custody for further investigation.
