Accident in Botleng led to the arrest of a man in possession of a stolen vehicle

The provincial commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded members of the police at Delmas for their vigilance.

The appreciation by the general comes after members attended an accident scene involving three cars in Ruth Mompati Street in Botleng, Delmas.

During the evening of Sunday, March 20, the Delmas Police discovered that, one of the vehicles was in fact reported stolen.

The police were alerted about the accident.

Upon their arrival at the scene, they noticed something sinister on one of the three cars, a silver Mazda with Gauteng number plates.

No injuries were reported during the said accident, but members soon realised that the vehicle’s license disc did not correspond with its number plates.

During further investigation, the police discovered that the suspect was driving car that had been stolen in Balfour during June 2021.

The driver of the car was then arrested and charged accordingly.

The accused was expected to have his first court appearance at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 22 facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.

“I feel proud to be associated and to work with police members whom show diligence and are committed to their work,” said Lieut-Gen Manamela.

“The members displayed the characters of true police officers who execute their duties with excellence.”
