Gunmen riddle businessman from eMbalenhle with bullets

 Community members of eMbalenhle are still shocked about the shooting and killing of a well-known businessman near eMbalenhle Mall on Friday night, April 1.According to community members who saw the incident, they described it as a Mafia-style execution.

The businessman, Jabulani Nkosi (45), was waiting for his wife who was inside their liquor shop to close up.

He was sitting inside his BMW X5 when two unknown gunmen opened fire from both sides of his vehicle’s front doors.

When they were finished, the gunmen allegedly walked off in the direction of Ext 5.

“I am used to seeing this kind of shooting in the movies, but I cannot believe that I saw it live.

“The manner in which this happened, was a Mafia-style assassination,” said a hawker near the mall.

“I was packing up my stock when I heard the sound of gunfire.

“I left my stock and ran for my life to the mall seeking a place to hide,” the hawker recalled.

“After five minutes it was quiet and I heard police sirens. I looked into the distance and saw a lot of police on the scene.

“Only then did I go back to take my stock and to see what happened.

“I noticed many bullet holes in the front doors of the businessman’s car.”

The police recovered 35 empty gun cartridges at the scene.

Const Busi Mthethwa, eMbalenhle Police spokesperson, said Nkosi had been shot in his face, head and upper body.

According to Mthethwa, a member of the public alerted the police of the shooting.

The police have opened a murder docket.

No one has yet been arrested.

Nkosi was a well-known for his involvement in the liquor trade.

He co-owned two liquor outlets.

Nkosi was buried in the Secunda Cemetery on Friday, April 8.
