Baby Liané from Secunda finally gets life changing operation
Child still needs medical aid and hospital bill to be covered.
Liané Roux (10 months) finally had the life-changing operation she needed so desperately on Friday, April 22 at the Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg.
Her parents, Quintin and Ashley Roux, mentally prepared themselves as the doctor explained all the possible dangers and complications to them the day before the operation.
They were told that doctors would operate for six hours on Liané, however in the end she was only in the operation theatre for about four hours.
Doctors and experts from the Maboneng Heart and Lung Institute did the operation and it was successful.
Liané is still in hospital in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit because she has to fully recover to live a normal life.
The doctors advised the Roux couple to get Liané on medical aid as soon as possible, even though the waiting period is a year.
“The doctor said there will be aftercare, monthly checkups in Johannesburg and other expenses when it comes to Liané’s health,” said Ashley.
The couple managed to raise enough money for the first three invoices of Liané’s much-needed operation.
These invoices include her hospital care, the cardiologists’ fees and the doctor who did the operation.
It does not cover her stay in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit because the costs can only be calculated when she is discharged from the hospital.
The hospital bill will also include x-rays and scans done while she is in hospital.
Liané was born with a heart defect known as a ventricular septal defect (VSD).
She had a little hole in her heart that divides her left- and right heart chambers from one another.
The operation doctors performed on Liané is known as transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and ventricular septal defect (VSD).
The Roux couple expects Liané’s hospital bill to be around R100 000 and a medical aid to cover Ashley and Liané will cost them about R4 882 monthly.
The family cannot cover the monthly medical fund expense and is looking for a sponsor.
They are also trying to raise R100 000 for the expected hospital bill.
Ashley thanked everyone who contributed to making the operation on Liané possible and said they are very thankful for the community that reached out to them and opened their hearts.
