Secunda Mall gives back to community with Take Heart project
Nominate someone with a need.
The management team of Secunda Mall launched their newest charity project, Take Heart, on Sunday, May 1 and with this project they want to bring the community together.
“If the average person battles to pay their electricity bill for the month or to pay school fees for the month, we want to help them,” said Danelle van der Watt, marketing manager at Secunda Mall.
People can fill in a form for help and drop their requests in the boxes situated at the entrances of the mall.
“We have already received requests for someone who needed food and somebody who wanted to begin their own cleaning company and we are going to sponsor them with a cleaning machine,” said Van der Watt.
People can also nominate somebody else in the community who they know are battling financially.
Secunda Mall will be celebrating this initiative every Friday and they called it Meet a Need.
“We want to help as many people as possible and we want the community and businesses to take hands with us on this project and challenge on another to also reach out and help.”
The first group who benefitted from this project, was the Light Bearer Project launched by the NG Kerk Goedehoop-gemeente where two hikers and brothers, Hendrik and Johan Keyser, hiked 42km daily for a week to raise money for needy families.
Secunda Mall sponsored them with R1 000 and also gave them a goodie bag and coffee from The Daily at Secunda Mall.
“It is good for us to be part of a community where a need can be identified,” said Van der Watt.
The nomination boxes at the entrances of the mall are emptied weekly and Van der Watt said if they can help more than one person per week it would be great.
“We want to give back to the community, because the community is our heart and we are proud to be part of the community in Secunda.”
Secunda Mall’s management team is already planning other community projects for this year as well, including reaching out to day care centres specifically.
They are also bringing back the Kiddies’ Club this year and will be launching a story writing competition later this year.
