Acting principal at college in Standerton shares some of his background
The untimely passing of Gert Sibande’s principal, Portia Mange on June 30, 2021 made his appointment necessary.
The acting principal of Gert Sibande TVET College in Standerton, Molifi Mabe’s credentials are impeccable.
He completed a B.Tech in Human Resources Management at the former Vaal Triangle Technicon, a B.Tech in Labour Relations, a post-graduate diploma in information science and is still burning the midnight oil.
Two study fields, another post-graduate diploma and a BA LLB, are on his current workload.
Mabe is in his third year with legal studies at Unisa.
He stays in one of the college’s houses in town and commutes at this stage every weekend to Pretoria.
His wife, Sibongile and three children keep the home fires burning.
Career-wise he began working on a contractual basis at Sebokeng Hospital in the HR-department and after the three-month-contract expired, things went seamless.
“The manager’s son was working in a managerial capacity at a company in Johannesburg and offered me a position,” he said.
“It was such a surprise and I began working the next day.”
The acting principal spent two years at the Department of Education in Gauteng afterwards, focusing on examinations.
The educational configuration in 2009 resulted in the splitting of the Department of Basic Education and Department of Higher Education and Training .
Mabe was promoted to deputy principal at Nkongala TVET College in 2017.

“Minister Blade Nzimande deployed me to this college,” he said.
On a recreational level, soccer is one of his enduring interests.
His days on the soccer field was in a middle-field position, earning the nickname ‘Wizard’.
This Tswana is a firm supporter of Orlando Pirates.
“Once a Pirates man, always a Pirates man,” he said before leaving for the next appointment.
