Ward committee members return empty-handed

It was alleged that induction of ward committee members falls under CoGTA and is not a political party issue.

The induction of ward committee members did not take place on Wednesday, June 8 as planned.

A group of disgruntled locals walked from the Standerton Show Grounds to Mbonani Mayisela Street, standing in front of the main municipal building.

According to Pheello Mlotshwa, community worker, the council speaker, Oliver Phiri, postponed the induction until further notice.

Mlotshwa said members of the EFF and LCF mobilised themselves and disrupted the process.

According to him, the parties arrived at the show grounds, halting proceedings in the belief that the ANC was involved in changing the lists of committee members.

He also said the induction of ward committee members falls under CoGTA and is not a party-political issue.

“The speaker bowed under the pressure of his own party,” he added.

According to him, council resolved at a sitting that induction processes can go forward.

Mlotshwa concluded by saying the speaker has indicated that a dispute has been declared.

The Standerton Advertiser sent a WhatsApp-message to Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager of the Lekwa Municipality, the same day to confirm the veracity of the above.
Comment is awaited.

These ward committee members were not inducted on Wednesday, June 8.
