Church in Sakhile preaches faith and education
Pastor Mandla Mlangeni delivered a sermon in which the the importance of both education and religion was emphasised.
Youth from different schools in Sakhile celebrated Youth Day with a jam-packed programme at the AFM Ebenezer Church on June 16.
The women of the congregation were preparing a wholesome meal early on.
The business community and several sponsors contributed to the food.
Apart from Sakhile Police’s communications officer, Const Dudu Zwane in attendance, several government departments sent representatives to add to the importance of the day.
They were among others from the Department of Health, Department of Education, Department of Social Development, with career guidance and the justice system also covered.
The strongly religion-based ceremony with rhythmic dancing, set the tone for the young people.
MC Sibonelo Letaoana welcomed everybody and made use of the opportunity to have the audience involved in the singing.
Singers on the podium, a drummer and keyboard player were part of the proceedings.
Past Mandla Mlangeni delivered a sermon in which the the importance of both education and religion were emphasised.
“Time is on your side to chase after your dreams,” he said.
“Education is the key to success.
“The decisions you make today will catch up with you later.”
He made a reference to the 1976-uprising in Soweto and said the youth of today should fight corruption.
Speakers were given the chance to highlight aspects of their experiences.
At one stage, exuberant learners were crisscrossing the hall with white, paper banners that symbolised chains to be taken off and broken.
The dancing was met with approval and ushers were quickly cleaning up afterwards.
The event was finely balanced between faith and education.
