Correctional Services sign rehabilitation agreement with company from Evander

The Evander branch of the Correctional Services has signed a service level agreement Matimba Rigging and Training Centre at the Bracken Mine last month to offer skills to offenders, parolees and probationers.
According to Veli Sithole, head of Community Correction at Evander office, the aim is to give the offenders, parolees and probationers skills to participate in the economy and become law abiding citizens.
Sithole said they are also requesting other companies within the Govan Mbeki Municipality to create such programmes for the offenders.
“As part of the rehabilitation programme, we began with three parolees. The number will be increase to 12.
“This programme will limit their chances of going back to crime.
“Companies that give such opportunities to offenders or parolees, are contributing in building a crime free society,” said Sithole.
He said the Correctional Services want to ensure all offenders become better people when they finish their jail terms.
