Levels at Grootdraai Dam at 100.2%
In the Gert Sibande District, only Grootdraai Dam recorded an improvement.
Mpumalanga’s dam levels are stable at 95.3%
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s weekly state of reservoirs report, the average levels in the listed dams remain unchanged from last week’s 95.3%.
In the Water Management Areas (WMA), the Olifants recorded a slight increase from last week’s 84.5% to 84.7% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropped from 99.1% to 98.9%.
In the Gert Sibande District, only Grootdraai Dam recorded an improvement, increasing from 100.0% to 100.2%.
Listed dams that remained unchanged include Jericho at 100.2%, Morgenstond at 100.1% and Heyshope at 100.4%.
Dams that dropped in water volumes in Gert Sibande include Nooitgedacht from 100.9% to 100.4%, Vygeboom from 101.4% to 100.5% and Westoe from 95.7% to 95.0%.
The department encouraged the public to continue using water sparingly even though the water levels look stable and higher than the 84.4% recorded during the same period last year.
They called on the public to conserve as much water as possible as South Africa is a water-scarce country, and most parts of the country are in the dry winter season.
