High accident numbers concern Secunda social workers

Famsa Highveld Ridge recently launched a road safety awareness campaign and its social workers invited the community to support this initiative.

This campaign kicked off in August with its first event at the Buyani Primary School in eMbalenhle where Famsa worked with the scholar patrol.

Famsa then targeted Secunda and visited various schools.

Their last visit was to Highveld Ridge Primary School where Famsa also invited the Department of Road Safety and Transport to address the children.

Gift Sibiya, a student social worker at Famsa, organised the event and said a representative of the department spoke to the children about road safety.

This organisation’s next event which forms part of this campaign will take place on October 22 in the form of a walk.

The walk will begin at the Kinross Police Station and the community is welcome to take part and support this event.

Paramedics and representatives of the traffic department will address people on this day and give tips on how to handle passengers at an accident scene.

After the talk, people will begin at the Kinross Police Station and walk to the crossing at the weigh bridge just outside of Kinross.

People will create awareness about road safety while they walk.

Sibiya urged the community and businesses to get involved and said they need a sponsor for water because they want to give each person who takes part in the walk a bottle of water.
