Water levels at Groottdraai Dam are stable
Every drop counts in a water-scarce country like South Africa.
Grootdraai Dam is stable at 93.3%.
According to a statement of the Department of Water and Sanitation dated October 5, it remained unchanged as most of the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District recorded drops in water volumes.
The department’s weekly state of reservoirs report shows that Vygeboom Dam is the other dam that remained unchanged, recording the same 99.8% as last week.
Declining in water volumes, Nooitgedacht dropped from 99.7% to 99.3%, Jericho from 92.9% to 92.3%, Westoe from 75.6% to 74.6%, Morgenstond from 99.9% to 99.8% and Heyshope from 99.5% to 99.3%.
Average water levels continue to drop in Mpumalanga as the report shows that the listed dams recorded an average drop from 91.8% to 91.3%.
Water levels also continue to drop in the Water Management Areas (WMA), with the Olifants dropping from 81.5% to 80.8% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropping from 95.7% to 95.3%.
The department encouraged the public to use available water sparingly, considering the dropping volumes and also to remember that every drop counts in a water-scarce country like South Africa.
They reminded the public that water supply security depends on responsible water use.
