Lekwa Municipality pumps sewage into water network

Raw sewage flowing into the river is nothing new and it got the attention of open-water swimmers as well.

Lekwa Municipality was spotted the past week dumping raw sewage into the water network.

An alert resident saw what was happening at the back of the Junxion Centre in town.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, better known as CoGTA, arrived in Standerton on Wednesday, October 12 to see firsthand how the municipality is doing.

The Standerton Advertiser has been steadfastly publishing articles on pollution of the Vaal River.

Raw sewage flowing into the river is nothing new and it got the attention of open-water swimmers as well.

They swam to raise awareness of the river’s contamination in March last year and to help seek solutions.

The Standerton Advertiser contacted Thando Nkosi, communications officer at Lekwa, on Friday, October 14.

Comment was requested at 12:10, via WhatsApp, on the above-mentioned.
