Foreign national in Standerton gets 6 years imprisonment
Mpumalanga Hawks arrest man in May for possesion of drugs.
Ifeanyi Okoli (35), a foreign national, was found guilty in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 17 for the possession of drugs.
He was sentenced to six years imprisonment of which three years are suspended for five years.
Okoli was arrested at the Zamanthungwa Tavern in Standerton on May 18 by the Hawks in Secunda and the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit who found Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) and Methacathinon (Cat) in his possession.
Members of the Hawks in Secunda followed up on information about the suspect who was peddling drugs.
According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, spokesman of the Mpumalanga Hawks, a search and seizure operation was done at the identified address and Okoli was caught.
He appeared in court several times before he was sentenced.
The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Maj-Gen Zodwa Mokoena, welcomed the sentence.
She warned the community that crime does not pay and said people should abstain from using drugs because they are destroying families and the country.
