Levels at Grootdraai Dam in Standerton below 90%
Grootdraai Dam’s water levels continue to drop.
The Department of Water and Sanitation urged the community of Standerton and surrounding areas to use water wisely and sparingly.
This comes after this department noticed that Grootdraai Dam’s water levels continue to drop and are already below 90%.
Sputnik Ratau, spokesman for the department, said their weekly report of October 24 showed that the dam level dropped from 90% last week to 89.5%.
Grootdraai Dam is integrated with the Vaal River system in the Lekwa area. Jericho Dam, also in this area, also dropped to below 90%.
Ratau said they recorded mixed results of the listed dams in the Gert Sibande District, with some dams dropping in water levels and others improving, while others remained unchanged.
The other dam joining Grootdraai- and Jericho Dams, the Nooitgedacht Dam, also dropped.
Ratau encouraged the community to fix all water leaks and report all bulk leaks to the authorities to prevent unnecessary loss of precious water as every drop counts and water has no substitute.
