Round Table Secunda 231 celebrates 40th
“What is happening here, is pure magic,” says Mpumalanga chairman.
They might only be a handful, but the members of Round Table Secunda 231 are making their peers take notice.
Brian Rossouw, Mpumalanga chairman of Round Table South Africa (RTSA) said this at a gala event held in
Trichardt on Saturday, October 22 to celebrate Round Table Secunda 231’s 40th birthday. Rossouw lauded these tablers for raising about R400 000 for charity since April.
“Secunda 231 is making a massive difference in their community.”
Rossouw said member numbers are dwindling all over and although he had been concerned for Secunda 231, he is astounded by the small group’s tenacity.
“What is happening here, is pure magic.”
According to Wikus Claassens, chairman of Secunda 231, they are vested in several projects, such as distributing milk to several schools and old age homes, a water tank for senior citizens and creating a vegetable garden at
Laerskool Trichardt to help sustain the children in the hostel.
The table also hosts fundraising events, such as a golf day held for brain cancer patient Rohan Bos earlier this year.
An angling competition at Trichardtsfontein Dam on November 5 with thousands in prize money is just one of the fundraisers up their sleeves.
The table also supported RTSA’s national Winter Knights drive with warm clothes worth about R40 000. Claassens thanked the community for their generosity.

The men toasted their wives for their support in this great cause, and a toast was also shared for South Africa.
Secunda 231’s birthday celebrations began on Friday with a fun night for present and former members referred to as “41ers”.
The Round Table is open for young men between the ages of 18 and 40 years. Anyone older than 40 is considered a 41-er.
Visitors included members of other tables as well as several Secunda 231 41-ers such as André Steenkamp who traveled from KZN to attend the festivities, and Riaan Theron, a former long-time resident, and businessman of Secunda was part of the Round Table for many years back in the day when Secunda 231 easily filled a room with 20 or more members.
The weekend was rounded off with the black tie event on Saturday.
