Leandra SAPS holds GBV awareness campaign
Ngubeni said the police noticed that some people think only women and children can report abuse.
The Leandra Police and other community organisations held a gender-based violence awareness campaign at Difa Nkosi Community Hall on Saturday, October 22.
According to Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, the Leandra police spokesperson, the purpose was to empower both men and boys as agents for change within the community and to create primary, and secondary social crime prevention in fighting all types of abuse.
“Men think that as police, we don’t take them seriously when they report the abuse to us. We agree that sometimes they are not assisted but we encourage them to report the abuse or any form of violence they are experiencing.

“We are experiencing an increase in suicides among men in Leandra.
“Some men are not open about their day-to-day challenges or abuse. They end up telling the wrong friends who either give wrong advice such as taking drugs or exerting revenge on their abusers,” said Ngubeni.
Ngubeni said the police noticed that some people think only women and children can report abuse.
She said anyone, regardless of gender, race or age can report this crime. Ngubeni encouraged men to visit their police station.
