Delmas SAPS awards members and civilians who walked the extra mile

The police also thanked the community and civilian organisations for their dedication to help fight crime.

In recognition of police members and stakeholders, a prize-giving formed part of the Delmas Police’s year-end function.

The event took place on Wednesday, December 7, and was attended by Delmas Police members, guests and various stakeholders.

Captain Carla Hartley, the programme director for the events welcomed members and guests where after Pastor Abraham Masilela opened the event with prayer.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Shongwe said the purpose of the function was to reflect on the past year and to give recognition to those members who went the extra mile during 2022.

“All members contributed, but some just went that extra mile and they will be rewarded,” said Shongwe.

Lieutenant Colonel Percy Matlala, Vispol head of the Delmas Police, added to what Shongwe said that Delmas is a town troubled with crime.

“Without our partners from the private sector it would be very difficult to control,” said Matlala.

The Delmas Police commander, Colonel Sipho Sithole said purpose of the prize-giving event was to award members who contributed greatly to the station.

Sithole also thanked all the police members and stakeholders for their positive contribution to the station.

Other speakers included the chairperson of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Milton Kubai, Ishmael Yogi from the Delmas Anti-hijacking team, Derek Bester, chairperson of the Sundra Bulldogs neighbourhood watch and Carel Botha, chairperson of the AfriForum Delmas Valke neighbourhood watch.
Kubai, Yogi, Bester and Botha also received certificates of appreciation for their contribution and dedication combatting crime in partnership with the Delmas Police during 2021/2022.

After the formalities of the speeches and prize-giving were done, it was time for all to enjoy an afternoon with the typical South African tradition of a braai.

Guests, police members and stakeholders ended the day with a great get-together.
