Love mom? Cook her a heart-healthy brekkie this Mother’s Day

You could wash the dishes, do the laundry or give the house a good old clean-up on Sunday, May 14.

Or you could go for the time-honoured Mother’s Day tradition of breakfast in bed and show mum just how much you all love her with a hearty brekkie laden with heart-healthy avos.

Moms are all about the family eating their greens, so tell her just how good both green-skinned and dark-skinned avos are, and why it’s such a great idea to include avocados with every meal, on the side, on top and inside too!

Avos are made up of predominantly ‘good’ monounsaturated fat, which may help to improve blood cholesterol levels and lower the risk for heart disease.

Avocados can also be incorporated into an effective weight loss plan.

If mom is cutting down on carbohydrates, studies have shown that replacing carbs with avocado, especially at breakfast, may give a feeling of fullness and leave mom feeling more than satisfied. So no excuse for unhealthy snacks in between meals!

Now if mom tells you not to fuss with her Mother’s Day breakfast, ignore her! Moms are great at wanting to do everything themselves, but this is something the whole family can do for her – and the best part is, it’s dead easy.

Whip up her favourite breakfast – eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and a croissant fresh out the oven, and then simply add an avo! Slice it as a side; dice it with feta and a drizzle of balsamic as a topper; or mash it with lemon juice, coriander and chilli flakes as a breakfast guac.

The options are really endless for adding an avo to your breakfast tray. Whichever way you choose to do it, make sure you blend it well with a generous helping of love this Mother’s Day.
