Help bless a child in need with the Santa Shoebox Project
Make up a box and make someone's heart happy.
Pledges for the yearly Santa Shoebox project opened on September 1. This project aims to give children in need something special once a year.
Coordinator of this event in the Secunda area, Gerda Peukert, said this year they are reaching out to children of Janelle Huis in Evander, House of Hope Development Centre in eMbalenhle and grades one and seven learners of a school in Davel.
They need about 216 shoeboxes to give to these children this year and Peukert said apart from making up a box as an individual, there are other ways people can get involved as well.
A team of staff members or friends can make up a box. You can also donate or sponsor some of the items needed to make up a Santa Shoebox.
“This year we have more older children on our list,” said Peukert.
However, there are still a few small children left who still need shoeboxes.
“For some of these children, this is the only time or the first time in their lives that they get brand new clothes and a toy,” said Peukert.
Eight items must be inside the boxes and these items are a toothbrush and toothpaste, a washcloth and a bar of soap, a set of clothing, a toy, one educational supply and a sweet.
You can place extra items inside the boxes such as socks, underwear, more than one educational item, sanitary towels, deodorant or even a cellphone and a charger.
Once you have pledged on the website which child you want to spoil, you can begin making up your box. The drop-off point is at Laerskool Goedehoop in Secunda on November 4 from 09:00.
