Elderly in eMbalenhle celebrate their cultures
They performed IsiNdebele, IsiZulu, SeSotho and Swati cultural dances.
As September is Heritage Month in SA, the elderly folk from the Zimeleni Old Age Centre in eMbalenhle Ext 17 celebrated it with cultural dances on September 25.
Anita Mkhwebane, a community leader from eMbalenhle, organised the event.
These elders performed IsiNdebele, IsiZulu, SeSotho and Swati cultural dances.
Mkhwebane said it was important for the younger generation to know about their culture because it taught them discipline and respect.

“Today, we face many problems, including drug and substance abuse among young people, and elderly people are robbed of their pension monies by their grandchildren.
“Some are even raped and abused. We must ask ourselves, what went wrong? We lost our cultural roots as parents,” said Mkhwebane.
She said all cultures had many good teachings, especially how to groom children to be good and conduct themselves in the community.
Mkhwebane said eliminating communities’ challenges and social ills could be possible if everyone practised their culture and customs.
