DA marches for better services in Bethal

The Govan Mbeki Municipality owes Eskom and Rand Water billions.

Political leaders of the DA, supporters and residents took to Bethal’s streets on May 6 to protest against poor service delivery in this town.

DA federal leader John Steenhuisen, provincial leader Jane Sithole and provincial chairperson Bosman Grobler joined the march and addressed the crowd.

The march began on the corner of Simon and Anderson streets, ending in the Bethal CBD, where the supporters and leaders danced and handed a memorandum to a Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) representative.

The DA specifically addressed the water and electricity problems in Bethal and said the municipality has been in a financial downward spiral since 2018.

The GMM owes Eskom and Rand Water a combined R5.4b for services rendered.

Apart from the nationwide load-shedding, Bethal, eMzinoni, and eMbalenhle residents also endure the GMM implementing reduction load-shedding to keep these areas within Eskom’s notified maximum demand.
