House robbers flee with cash, goods in Standerton

Robbers broke into the home of Omar Mohammed Said on July 25 and stole R81 000 worth of cash and items.

Omar Mohammed Said and his wife, Fatura, were asleep in their home in the Stanwest area on July 25 when they heard cupboards opening and closing.

When Said stood up to investigate, a man wearing a balaclava pointed a firearm at him and demanded money.

According to Captain Gibi Mtsweni, the Standerton SAPS spokesperson, the victim had R10 000 in cash.

The robbers forced the victims into a closet, where they tied them up and covered their heads with a duvet.

Another intruder asked Fatura where she kept her jewellery. After realising it had become quiet, Said freed himself and his wife.

They discovered that the robbers fled with multiple cellphones, jewellery and an estimated R50 000 in cash from the safe.

The total value of the items stolen is about R81 000.

The case is still under investigation, and detectives are following any leads that could bring the robbers to justice.

Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest on this case can report it to the SAPS on 017 719 1250.
