Solar Car Challenge kicks off from Secunda

The eight-day race will end in Cape Town on September 20.

The 2024 Sasol Solar Challenge kicked off at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club on September 13.

In its 16th year, 14 professional and amateur solar care teams from around the world took on the challenge.

The teams had to develop, build and then drive their solar-powered cars from Secunda to Cape Town.

The goal is to drive as far as possible without using fuel. The race will end in Cape Town on September 20.

This year’s challenge brags with a new route and a record number of women participating in the race.
