Children in need will benefit from Santa Shoebox project

Make a child's heart happy by pledging a box.

Residents can still take part in the Santa Shoebox project this year. This project kicked off a few months ago and residents can still make a child in need’s heart happy by pledging a box.

The goal of this project in Secunda is to collect 120 boxes for needy children. The project organiser, Gerda Peuckert, said donors usually choose the teenagers last to pledge a box.

This year the boxes will be handed out to children at the SAVF Secunda Child and Youth Care Centre, Laerskool Trichardt, the Louis Hildebrandt Child and Youth Care Centre in Volksrust and the Hope Creche in Kinross.

To take part in this project, visit the website, www.santashoebox.org.za, choose Secunda as your region and select the child to who you want to make up a gift box.

The closing date for the boxes to be made up is November 1 and drop off is November 2 and 3 at Laerskool Goedehoop.

People can also make up boxes in teams of friends or work colleagues or get involved and donate in other ways.

You can also choose to sponsor only some items going inside the boxes. Eight items must be inside each box.

These are a toothbrush and toothpaste, a washcloth and a bar of soap, a set of clothes, a toy, one educational item such as stationery and a sweet.

People can place extra items inside the boxes, such as socks, underwear, more educational items, sanitary towels, deodorant or even a cell phone and a charger. For more information, call Peukert on 082 499 4662.
