Three nabbed near Delmas for possession of suspected stolen property and illegal firearms

A Lenovo laptop, eleven cell phones and three firearms, a .38 revolver and two pistols were in their possession.

A member of the Crime Intervention Task Force received a recovery update on a stationary Toyota Quantum on November 25. The GPS coordinates showed the vehicle was stationary at Petro Port-South on the N12 near Delmas.

The task force member spotted the Quantum with three suspects, reversed and parked in the parking area near a well-known fast-food restaurant.

He immediately called for backup from Highway Patrol Middelburg, provincial traffic and the Delmas Police.

“The team searched the suspects and the Toyota Quantum and recovered a Lenovo laptop, 11 cell phones and three firearms, a .38 revolver and two pistols, with all the serial numbers filed off,” said Captain Carla Hartley, media spokesperson for the Delmas Police.

Further investigation revealed the three suspects were involved in Hazyview in a house robbery and the theft of a Toyota Quantum.

They were, however, apparently also involved in a rape case in the early morning hours of November 25. The suspects were detained at Delmas SAPS and firearms and stolen property were seized and booked in the SAPS 13.

“A case of possession of suspected stolen vehicle and property and three counts of possession of illegal firearms were opened,” Hartley concluded.
