Red Star Delmas hosts first parkrun for 2025

Young and old made the most of the Red Star track and its spectacular views.

Red Star parkrun outside Delmas hosted its first 5km track run for 2025 on January 11.

With rainwater covering the tarmac and dark clouds looming, the organisers carefully considered runners’ safety, but the run continued as rain stopped minutes before the start.

Event coordinator Jacky Grassman welcomed the participants.

“We are looking forward to hosting many successful parkruns,” Grassman said.

She also thanked the volunteers who made the event possible. Runners took to the track as the green light came on at the pole position in front of the famous Red Star Bridge.

Young and old made the most of the tarred Red Star track and its spectacular views. Red Star runner Bongani Mtsweni finished first in 20:54, followed by Mthokozosi, Eben Swanepoel, and Ethan Swanepoel.

At 27:46, Sarah Pope from the Jeppe Quondam Athletic Club was the first woman to finish the race. Visit the Red Star Parkrun Facebook page for more information.
