Lekwa hosts groundbreaking for new mall

According to the municipality, the mall will create an estimated 400 jobs.

Many stakeholders were at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated Standerton Mall on January 13, marking a milestone for the town’s economy.

Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu, MMC for Planning and Economic Development Sesana Masondo, Speaker Dumisani Msibi, Wilma Venter and Daniel Venter witnessed this monumental moment in the town’s history.

A local company was appointed to do the earthworks operations shortly after the ceremony. A statement released by the municipality indicated that work would continue until April.

It is estimated that the first phase of this project alone will create 400 job opportunities.

“This is a huge step forward for our community. This mall will create jobs, enhance the local economy and offer new shopping experiences for locals and visitors,” said the mayor.

Though the project is still in the early stages, Mngemezulu thanked the stakeholders for their contributions and voiced his excitement at seeing the development transform the town.
