State departments team up in Bethal
All the departments benefitted from the meeting.
Abel Mashaba, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) area commissioner of Bethal, recently led DCS representatives in a meeting with the SAPS.
Captain Mandla Maseko, the acting station commander of Bethal, and the station commander of eMzinoni, Captain Lucky Nkosi, also attended.
Chief inspector Swanje Wright and provincial inspector Solly Masombuka represented the Department of Community Safety Security Liaison (DCSSL).
In his statement, Mashaba stressed the importance of enhancing the interdependence between law enforcement departments for Bethal’s safety.
He said the meeting aimed to enhance stakeholder engagement among the institutions and urged all parties to work to sustain brotherhood and sisterhood among themselves.
“Unity will help us create a common understanding of the environment in which we operate,” said Mashaba.
“It will also help us create goals for our strategic planning so that we can have a well-co-ordinated integrated approach in implementing programmes of our respective departments that will effectively and efficiently contribute towards a common goal of strengthening community safety.
“Let us help and recognise one another because we need one another.”
According to Maseko, the present relationship between these law departments strengthens daily. He applauded the other departments for the invitation to collaborate with the SAPS.
He mentioned many examples of successful operations achieved together. However, he suggested frequent meetings between them to nourish the partnership.
Nkosi asked for the initiative’s extension to other government departments and pleaded with all those in uniform to support and sustain the partnership for the communities they serve.

Nkosi also made a special request to form a solid working force that would produce a strategic integrated approach to eradicate drugs and weapons hindering learning and teaching at schools.
“We have to put in effort to help the community regain our trust,” said Nkosi.
Wright applauded the DCS for the initiative. She was happy that strengthening the partnership would improve communication among them.
“Sometimes, we receive complaints that require the attention of our colleagues, but it becomes a challenge to solve them because we do not have direct contact. Therefore, I am content that with this unity, we will be able to help one another,” said Wright.
The DCS believes a healthy and solid partnership with other departments will improve service delivery by addressing challenges threatening the community of Bethal.
