Govan Mbeki mayor reshuffles mayoral committee

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor Lwandile Ziwele was removed from the mayoral committee and replaced by EFF councillor Tracy Seimela.

Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) Mayor Nhlakanipho Zuma announced immediate changes to his mayoral committee during a media briefing on February 26.

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor Lwandile Ziwele was removed from the mayoral committee and replaced by EFF councillor Tracy Seimela.

Despite her appointment, Seimela and other EFF councillors did not attend the council meeting on February 27 where Zuma announced his new MMCs.

Zuma continued with the announcement, appointing Seimela as the MMC for Community Services, a position previously held by EFF councillor Mavis Nsibande.

Nsibande was reassigned as MMC for Budget and Revenue Enhancement, replacing ANC councillor Jabu Zwane, who is now the MMC for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering – a position previously held by Ziwele.

The ANC councillors assigned new roles within the mayoral committee are:

  • Thandi Mtsweni – MMC for Finance;
  • Aron Mbokazi – MMC for Civil Engineering;
  • Doctor Mtshali – retains position as MMC for Corporate Services;
  • Thandi Ngxonono – retains position as MMC for Planning and Economic Development.

Following his removal, Ziwele declined to comment, telling the Ridge Times he could not discuss the decision.
