Karate instructor from Standerton passes national referee examination
Jannie Degenaar hopes his accomplishment inspires aspiring referees to become refs in South Africa.
Local karate instructor and owner of the Three Swords Dojo, Jannie Degenaar, recently passed the national referee examination (NRE).
Through hard work and dedication, Degenaar achieved this top-class award.
To get this honour, candidates must start at the lowest level, judge B regional. Every two years, candidates who qualify can level up to judge A regional, referee B and then referee A.
The same steps are followed at the provincial and national levels to attain an NRE qualification. Another qualifier for the exam is that candidates must pass the World Karate Federation exam with a minimum score of 95%.
Degenaar hopes this accomplishment inspires aspiring referees to become refs in South Africa. Degenaar’s results secured him a referee position at the National Senior Karate competitions.
His next appearance is in Durban for the Region 5 International Karate Championship.
