Lekwa hosts housing consumer awareness campaign

The beneficiaries received an explanation on how to further develop their homes as assets.

The Lekwa Local Municipality (LLM) hosted a housing consumer education programme on February 27 with the aim of empowering beneficiaries of subsidised housing.

The event was held at Thusong Centre in Sakhile and was attended by several stakeholders including the beneficiaries and Clr Smanga Ngwenya.

“We would like to encourage beneficiaries to attend these events regularly to gain a better understanding of their roles as homeowners,” said Ngwenya.

The beneficiaries received an explanation on how to further develop their homes as assets.

The Housing Consumer Education Programme is designed to provide residents with the needed knowledge to be effective homeowners.

They teach residents about their rights, responsibilities and expectations.

“The primary goal of the programme is to ensure that beneficiaries understand how to take care of their homes, maintain them and make informed decisions regarding housing services,” explained Lubabalo Majenge, communications officer for the Lekwa Local Municipality.

Participants left the day with a deeper knowledge about their homes.
