Morgenzon roads suffer widespread rot
In Morgenzon, deteriorating roads, lack of stormwater drainage, and unchecked traffic are leaving residents to navigate a town in disrepair, with no municipal action to fix the growing problems.
The roads in Morgenzon have slowly deteriorated for several years, and a quick drive through town shows the widespread rot.
Local businessman Corné van Dijk said a large contributor to the roads’ state is that there is no viable stormwater drainage system throughout the town, causing the roads to deteriorate more each rainy season.
Water pools form on the roads with no place to go in several areas. Morgenzon primarily comprises gravel roads, so it is a serious issue for motorists.
“The road has not been scraped since the initial takeover of Lekwa,” explained Van Dijk.
No maintenance or upkeep of gravel roads makes it nearly impossible for residents to travel through town. Trucks driving through town at dangerous speeds worsen the roads, and having no speed limit signs adds to this problem.
“In another area of town, a resident has effectively shut down an entire road by digging a ditch to lead water away from his yard,” explained Van Dijk.
The ditch spans an entire gravel road, making it inaccessible for residents.
