Dam levels fluctuate in Gert Sibande district

Grootdraai Dam decreased from 102.6% to 102.1%.

The latest weekly state of reservoirs report shows mixed results in dams in the Gert Sibande district. The district average decreased slightly from 101.3% to 101.0%.

According to a media statement sent by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), average levels in Mpumalanga have also declined.

The dams in the Gert Sibande District that showed slight improvements are the Nooitgedacht and Jericho Dams, rising from 99.4% to 100.6% and 101.9% to 102.1%, respectively.

Grootdraai Dam decreased from 102.6% to 102.1%, while Westoe Dam decreased from 99.6% to 99.3%. Morgenstond Dam dropped to 99.8% from 100.3%.

Heyshope Dam dropped from 101.1% to 100.9%, and Vygeboom Dam decreased from 100.3% to 99.1%.

“Despite the overall satisfactory water levels, the Department emphasizes the importance of continued water conservation,” stated Wisane Mavasa, spokesperson for the DWS.

The DWS wants to remind the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and that water reserves should be used wisely during the coming dry season.
