House invader rapes and robs young woman in Leandra

The Leandra police have opened cases of rape, assault, and theft.

An 18-year-old woman was raped during a house robbery in Leandra in the early hours of May 12.

According to Leandra police spokesperson Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, the victim was asleep on the couch when a suspect armed with a firearm entered the house through a window.

The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the young woman and instructed her to go to her bedroom, where he raped her.

Ngubeni said after raping her, the suspect demanded money and a cellphone. When the victim said she did not have either, he assaulted her.

The suspect then fled the scene with a computer and a jersey belonging to the victim’s sister. No arrests have been made at this stage. The Leandra police have opened cases of rape, assault, and theft.

Ngubeni urged anyone with information that could assist in locating the suspect to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Bheki Maphanga, on 071 420 0295.
