Grootdraai Dam levels start to decline
Grootdraai Dam recorded a decrease from 101.1% to 100.5%.
Dam levels across Mpumalanga have shown a slight decrease in the past week, and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) urges all residents to use water sparingly despite water levels remaining relatively high.
The latest state of reservoirs report showed a slight decrease in provincial dam levels, from 99.8% to 99.7%. The Gert Sibande District average declined from 100.7% to 100.4%.
Only two dams in the district remained stable, while the rest showed declines in water levels. Nooitgedacht Dam remained stable at 100.4% and Morgenstond Dam kept steady at 100.4%.
Grootdraai Dam recorded a decrease from 101.1% to 100.5%. Vygeboom Dam saw a marginal decrease from 100.4% to 100.3%.
Jericho Dam dropped from 102.1% to 101.4% while Westoe Dam dropped from 97.6% to 96.6%. Heyshope Dam recorded a marginal decline from 100.8% to 100.5%.
“The DWS reiterated that despite these favorable dam levels, South Africa remains a water scarce country,” stated Mandla Mathebula of the DWS.
The department strongly urges water conservation efforts amongst individuals. Citizens can conserve water by reporting and fixing leaks and avoiding wasteful usage.
