Operation Shanela in Boschkop and Cullinan yields huge successes
The operation focused on the Boschkop and Cullinan policing areas.
The SAPS in Tshwane recently conducted a high-impact crime combatting operation under Operation Shanela. The operation focused on the Boschkop and Cullinan policing areas.
The operation was led by Tshwane district commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, and supported by various law enforcement partners. Detectives from across the Tshwane District played a key role, making 282 of the arrests.
Among these were: 85 suspects linked to gender-based violence cases, two for murder, seven for attempted murder, seven for armed robbery, 60 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, three for perjury and eight for rape.
“The combined effort by all units involved resulted, therefore, in the arrest of 311 suspects for a range of criminal offences,” said Captain Johan van Dyk, the district communication coordinator.

“With a strong police presence in both precincts, members focused on visible policing, compliance enforcement, and targeted operations. These included liquor inspections, tracing of wanted suspects, and intensified patrols in known crime hotspots,” Van Dyk added.
A roadblock was also conducted in Boschkop, supported by operational teams in both Boschkop and Cullinan.
“This led to the detention of 24 undocumented foreign nationals — these individuals are being processed for possible court appearances and deportation.”
One employer was also arrested and fined for employing undocumented persons. The police searched 841 individuals and 350 vehicles, and patrolled 20 high-crime areas and premises.

During these operations, one suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs after officers found six ziplock bags containing crystal meth and an undisclosed amount of cash in his possession.
Van Dyk added that traffic officers played a key role and issued 116 AARTO infringement notices totaling R46 300 for various traffic offences.
Seven liquor outlets were inspected whereby two were shut down, with police confiscating 1 315 liters of alcohol due to non-compliance with the Liquor Act.
Thine thanked all involved members and partners for their commitment and dedication, noting the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against crime in Tshwane.
