Child Protection day celebration hosted in VKLM
“Let us join hands and save the children, let us fear less, love more, together we rise.”
The Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM) hosted a child protection day on June 13. The morning began with a fun walk from Delmas Midas to the VKLM sports ground, where the main event was held.
This day served as a platform for stakeholders to work towards creating a safer and more nurturing environment for the children of the VKLM community.
The little ones showcased their talents by singing awareness songs, reciting slogans, and performing awareness poems.

Pastor Sonnyboy Mtakwende, the chairperson of Early Childhood Development (ECD) in Delmas, and Thulisile Skosana, the manager of Transversal, moderated the programme.
They read a memorandum highlighting key concerns and pleas for child protection and handed it over to the municipal manager, Thabo Mashabela.
The memorandum emphasised the need for the provision of basic needs such as water, electricity, and food; budgeting for ECD centres to enhance children’s futures; the establishment of proper ECD centres and the allocation of sites for these purposes; and the involvement of ECD stakeholders in planning and development discussions.

The memorandum concluded with a powerful message: “Let us join hands and save the children. Let us fear less, love more. Together we rise – towards a bigger purpose and future. Stop child trafficking – our little ones are not for sale. They are the future; their lives matter.”
The event also featured interactive demonstrations on road safety and fire safety. The little ones were taught about road signs, traffic rules, and safety measures, while parents were advised about the dangers of driving with children on their laps.
The firefighter demonstration taught children about the dangers of fire and how to manage it using the ‘Stop, Drop, and Roll’ method.
The organisers thanked the VKLM, ECD principals, teachers, and parents for their support and trust in ensuring a successful event.
