Sport occupies Youth Day in Evander

The Superstars team won the netball in the junior category while the Stars of Tomorrow finished second.

The NPO Victorious Loving Hope hosted a Youth Anti-Drug Awareness Sports Tournament on June 16.

The event took place at Laerskool Hoëveld and featured several soccer, netball and rugby teams competing throughout the day.

The Superstars team won the netball in the junior category while the Stars of Tomorrow finished second. Gert Sibande College team won the senior netball category.

Gert Sibande College excelled on the rugby and soccer field as well and took first place there.

The Victory team finished second in the rugby tournament while the Yaweh Rapha Rehab Centre soccer team finished second and the Evander Danko FC soccer team finished third.

Founder Thomas Banga took hands with various stakeholders, including the Evander Community Forum, SAPS, Yaweh Rapha Rehabilitation Centre, Mpumalanga Rehabilitation Centre, the Department of Social Development, Heaps (Highveld East Aids Project Support), Deaf SA and others.

Representatives from these organisations addressed the youth, highlighting the dangers of drug abuse. The Gert Sibande teams emerged victorious in both the soccer and rugby matches. Banga and the Victorious Loving Hope team thanked all the sponsors who made the event possible.
