They appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on June 30.

The police made a breakthrough in the murder case of 20-year-old Buhlebenkosi Makhanda with the arrest of four men on June 27.

Makhanda was last seen alive on May 31 while walking with a friend in Sakhile. According to reports, armed men approached them, held them at gunpoint and robbed them. While the friend was released shortly afterwards, Buhle remained at the mercy of her captors.

Tragically, her half-naked body was discovered the next day near a graveyard. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and investigators suspect the men sexually assaulted her.

The four men were arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, carjacking, kidnapping and rape.

According to Captain Braam Robberts, the spokesperson for the Standerton SAPS, the arrests followed intense investigations by a dedicated detective team.

The SAPS found the men with evidence linking them to this case and a hijacking and kidnapping in Standerton on June 22.

They appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on June 30.
