Standerton Sables clinches title as Mayor League

The Sables beat the Krielsaders 37-33.

The Standerton Sables walked off SHS’s A-rugby field as champions on July 26, beating the Krielsaders 37-33. During this rugby season, the Sables have faced some of the toughest teams, persevering through to the finals of the Mayors League.

The pavilion was packed on Saturday with local supporters who came to witness the nail-biting match. Michael Podges scored the first try of the game, inspiring the Krielsaders to push further.

At the 60-minute mark, the score was 26-22 in favour of Kriel. The teams went back and forth, stopping one another just short of the try line each time.

The match ended with the Sables securing the win. The Sables lifted the cup and walked away with R10 000 and the Mayors League championship title.
