Women in Sports host sanitary pad fundraiser in Standerton
Over 500 pads were collected at the women in sports Women's Day match. Donations are still open.
Women in Sports hosted a soccer tournament on August 9 in celebration of Women’s Month, where six teams took to the field in a show of talent and community spirit.
According to event organiser Nokusiza Bhengu, four of the teams, SADTU FC, Sasol FC, Giants FC and Health FC, played to encourage the donation of sanitary pads.
“The four teams will each select a school where sanitary pads will be donated,” Bhengu explained.
A friendly match between two formidable women’s teams, Royal Lions and Lekwa United Ladies, added to the excitement of the day.

Bhengu confirmed that more than 500 sanitary pads were collected during the event.
“This initiative is not ending here. Donations will continue until the end of the month, with collection boxes available at various retailers,” she said.
The event was coordinated by Bhengu, Mbali Sibande and Zweli Zwane, with sponsorship from Kasselman Security Services, SANTACO, iVati Purifizer, Nelsons Funeral Home, Meadows Poultry, Motaung Spares, Classics Signs and London Liquor.
