Secunda court postpones concealment of birth case

A woman appeared in court after being arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn in a rubbish bin.

A 32-year-old woman facing charges of concealment of the birth of a newborn appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on August 26.

The court postponed the matter to September 26, pending further investigation.

The woman was arrested at her home in Secunda on February 20 after police followed CCTV footage leads of a vehicle the woman used to discard the dead newborn boy in a rubbish bin in the CBD near the SuperSPAR in the Eastside Centre on Horwood Street on February 19.

A homeless man found the newborn’s body when looking in the rubbish bin for tins and food.

The infant’s body was boxed in a plastic bag.

ER24 declared the baby dead on the scene.
