Concealment of birth case from Secunda proceeds to the Delmas High Court for trial

A woman appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court after a newborn was found in a rubbish bin, with the case set to move to the Delmas High Court.

A woman facing charges of concealment of the birth of a newborn appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on November 18.

The case will proceed to the Delmas High Court for trial from February 15 to 19, 2027. The woman has applied for a legal aid representative.

The matter stems from her arrest at her home in Secunda on February 20.

Police followed CCTV footage leads of a vehicle she used to discard the dead newborn boy in a rubbish bin in the CBD near the SuperSPAR in the Eastside Centre on Horwood Street on February 19.

A homeless man found the body when looking in the rubbish bin for tins and food. The infant’s body was in a plastic bag. ER24 declared the baby dead on the scene.
