Another shop is robbed at Khaya Mall in eMbalenhle

eMbalenhle Police sit with a number of cases that emanates from buying goods online.

Robbers targeted Khaya Mall in eMbalenhle on Wednesday, July 27.

The staff of the two shops were robbed at gunpoint and cellphones and cash were taken.

According to Const Busi Mthethwa, the robbers hit a clothes store before proceeding to rob a cellphone store.

The first store was robbed of cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash and other electrical appliances at gunpoint.

According to police, robbers pointed firearms at employees and demanded the keys to the safe.

The gunmen instructed an employee to load cellphones, cash and electrical appliances into a big bag.

Mthethwa said one robber was pretending to be a customer who wanted to buy a cellphone. When the other robbers entered, he pushed the employee who was assisting him.

The robbers instructed the cashier to transfer R12 000 to an unknown account from the till and the cashier adhere to their instructions.

They then ran to their car in the parking lot and sped off.

Mthethwa said no one was injured during the robbery.

No arrests have yet been made and the police are investigating.

Last month, another cellphone shop was robbed at gunpoint and cellphones and electric machines worth about R200 000 were stolen.

eMbalenhle Police also warned the community about online shopping scams.

Mthethwa said police are facing a spike in cases of online scams where people buy things online, but the sellers disappear after receiving the money.

“We sit with a number of cases that emanate from buying goods online.

“There is a complainant who was scammed out of about R200 000 buying a truck online.

We are warning our community to be careful of such transactions,” said Mthethwa.
