Well-known artist from eMbalenhle appears in court for rape of children

Mthethwa said the victim alleges that she was given R50 in exchange for sex and further alleges that the suspect put her on the bed and raped her.

A 36-year-old artist from eMbalenhle who is well-known, appeared before Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 30, in connection with the rape of two girls.

According to Const Busi Mthethwa, eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the mother of an 11-year-old girl recently returned home from work to find her child was not at home.

The woman sent the girl’s cousin to find her.

The two girls returned, chewing gum.

When the mother asked her daughter where she had gotten money to buy gum, the girl claimed the suspect gave her money.

The victim alleged that she had been given R50 in exchange for sex. He had allegedly put her on a bed and raped her.

Mthethwa said during the investigation, an additional statement was made by another girl.

A second girl alleged the suspect had also raped her.

Mthethwa said the police are appealing to parents whose children are or had been part of a performing art group in eMbalenhle, to come forward with more information.

The case was postponed to Monday for a formal bail application.
