Two suspects to appear in Evander Magistrate’s Court for theft of conveyor belts

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, the arrests came after Sasol employees detected the theft of conveyor belts in January 2019 and the matter was reported to the Hawks for further investigation.

Two suspects aged between 29 and 42 are to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s  Court on September 9, in connection with the theft of conveyor belts.

The duo was arrested during a multidisciplinary operation conducted on Wednesday, September 7.

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, the arrests came after Sasol employees detected the theft of conveyor belts in January 2019 and the matter was reported to the Hawks for further investigation.

“During the investigation, the suspects were identified and warrant of arrest was executed on Wednesday,” said Capt Sekgotodi.

“The joint police team which included the Secunda based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Secunda Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Hawks’ Priority Crime Special Investigation (PCSI ) based in Mpumalanga and the Secunda K9 unit executed the operation in Springs, Emalahleni and Witbank respectively, with the purpose of addressing the threats of theft of conveyor belts.
