Man with panga robs teen in Secunda

Suspect apprehended near Graceland.

A 14-year-old boy was robbed of his brand-new bicycle and wristwatch at about 14:00 today.

Ridge Times saw the child running down Cornelia Street in search of help.

The boy said he was near the duck pond on his way to a cycling track at Hammerkop Dam when a man stepped into his path.

“The man had a panga. I tried to swerve but fell. The robber threatened to chop off my hands,” the teen said.

The robber searched the boy’s pockets before taking off on the bicycle.

The police were notified, and Roman Alarms responded to the call for help.

Reaction officer Khaya Nala, accompanied by the victim, spotted a suspect riding the stolen bicycle toward eMbalenhle.

The suspect fled into tall grass near Graceland but was quickly apprehended by Nala.

A panga was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was taken to the police station.

While Ridge Times has a photo of the alleged robber, it cannot be published until the individual appears in court.
