Evander Court acquits man on charges of torching traffic cars

All charges were dropped against Jacob Khumalo, who has been in prison since August 2023.

The Evander Magistrate’s Court acquitted Jacob Khumalo on May 9 of all charges related to a violent incident that took place near the Walker Park Golf Course on the R546 in August 2023.

Khumalo faced multiple charges, including discharging a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and damage to public property after several Mpumalanga traffic vehicles were either damaged or set alight during a roadblock.

According to reports, a group of men overpowered law enforcement officers. The group subsequently torched the officers’ vehicles, and these officers fled to the Evander Police Station for safety.

Khumalo was arrested shortly after the incident and denied bail. He has remained in custody since his arrest.

Following Friday’s court proceedings, Khumalo was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges.

They released him the same day.
