Capt Nkosinathi Khanyile is the new commander of Charl Cilliers Police Station
A sign board was also erected to make the police station more visible.
Police in Charl Cilliers introduced their new station commander and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) to the community on Saturday, July 23.
The new Charl Cilliers Police Station commander is Capt Nkosinathi Khanyile and the CPF chairman is Barend van der Westhuizen.
Const Millicent Mqoco, Charl Cilliers Police spokesperson, told the community that though the CPF was launched two years ago, it was not formally introduced to the community.
“As we introduce our new station commander and CPF to our community, we have also unveiled a welcoming signboard like other police stations.
“We realised that it was difficult for people who are not familiar with the town to know the location of our police station.
“It was easy for a person who is running away from criminals to pass the station while in need of the police,” said Mqoco.
Van der Westhuizen introduced members of CPF and their identification clothing.
“As the CPF, our role is to fight crime and create a crime-free community. If a community member suspects any criminal activity in their neighbourhood, including GBV, they
are welcome to report it to the CPF, because we are nearer to the community,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“If you report something, make sure that you provide us with the correct location of where this criminal activity is taking place.
“As community members, you are welcome to join the CPF to assist in the fight against crime,” said Van der Westhuizen.
Khanyile promised to work closely with the community and he encouraged them to report directly to him if they do not get assistance from the members at the station.
The Govan Mbeki municipal speaker, Fikile Magagamela, pleaded with the community to work with police and the CPF to combat crime.
All stakeholders received certificates of appreciation from the Charl Cilliers Police and CPF.
